The Alfred Research Strategy, launched in November 2000, provides a framework for the management and direction of research. It was also designed to facilitate the development and impact of the new Alfred Medical Research & Education Precinct (AMREP).

A key component of the Research Strategy was the establishment of a management structure for research. Professor Graeme Ryan AC was appointed as Director, Research Strategy to enhance and promote the profile of research at The Alfred. Heather Gallichio was appointed as Business Manager, Office of Medical Research to manage and coordinate financial and operational matters relating to research.
