The Alfred is a
major teaching
hospital with a significant clinical research focus. The Alfred and the
three other major institutions on the campus (the
Baker
IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute, the
Macfarlane Burnet Institute for
Medical Research and Public Health, the
Monash University Central &
Eastern Clinical School and the Monash University School of Public
Health and Preventive Medicine) form the Alfred Medical Research and Education
Precinct (AMREP), officially opened in 2002.
