Fellowships and Grants
The Garnett Passe
and Rodney Williams Memorial Foundation offers
Research Scholarships, Research Training Fellowships, an
Overseas Research Fellowship,
a Senior/Principal
Research Fellowship,
Project Grants and Grants-In-Aid in
otorhinolaryngology
or related fields of biomedical science, to commence in 2010.

Research Scholarships
Value: At
the NHMRC Medical/Dental Scholarship rate for medical graduates
(currently $30,378) or the Biomedical Scholarship rate for science
graduates (currently $20,427) or equivalents in New Zealand.
Successful applicants will also be provided with a supplementary
allowance for minor items of equipment, consumables and travel of up
to $7,500 pa.
Duration: Up to three years,
subject to satisfactory progress.
Eligibility: Individuals who
are either medically qualified or science graduates, and who are, or
will be, enrolled for a higher university degree. Scholarships are
tenable in Australian or New Zealand institutions.

Research Scholarships
Research Training Fellowships
Value: In the
NHMRC Training Support Package Level 1 range, clinically loaded
if appropriate, with a maintenance allowance of $7,500 pa.
Duration: Up to two years (but may,
in special circumstances, be extended for a third year upon written
application to the board).
Eligibility: Individuals who
are either medically qualified or hold a PhD degree are eligible to
apply. Fellowships are tenable in Australian or New Zealand
institutions.

Research Training Fellowships
Overseas
Research Fellowship
Value: In the
NHMRC Training Support Package Level 1 range, clinically loaded
if appropriate. Accommodation, cost of living, maintenance and travel
allowances will also be provided.
Duration: One term of four years
(first two years to be spent overseas, subsequent two years to be
spent in Australia or New Zealand).
Eligibility: Outstanding
researchers, who
are either medically qualified or science graduates with no more than
six years total postdoctoral research experience are eligible to
apply.

Overseas Research Fellowship
Senior/Principal Research Fellowship
Value: $200,000 pa
(all-inclusive). In addition to the applicant’s salary and on-costs,
applicants are encouraged to apply for equipment and establishment
costs in the first year of their project, and for research assistance,
minor items of equipment and additional maintenance in subsequent
years.
Duration: One term of five
years.
Eligibility: Outstanding
researchers, who are either medically qualified or science graduates
with recognised postdoctoral achievements, who are seeking to
establish a career related to research in the field of
Otorhinolaryngology.

Senior/Principal Research
Fellowship
Project Grants
Value:
Up to
$100,000 pa (must include the salary of the applicant and/or research
assistant, on-costs, maintenance, equipment and all other costs).
Duration: Up to three years.
Eligibility: Must be
conducted in an Australian or New Zealand university, teaching
hospital or research institute. Cannot be held by an awardee
concurrently supported by the foundation.

Project Grants
Grants-In-Aid
Value: Up to $50,000 pa. Grants
are restricted to equipment and maintenance.
Duration: Up to two years.
Eligibility:
Otolaryngologists or trainees in the specialty who are in possession
of the first part of the FRACS are eligible to apply. Cannot be held by an awardee
concurrently supported by the foundation.
