Research Training

Synopsis:
The Travelling Award for Research Training has been established to
enable current holders of NHMRC Australian-based Fellowships and
Scholarships to value add to their research by providing funding for
limited training periods at a temporary host institution.
Eligibility:
The awards are available to
all current holders of NHMRC Australian Training Fellowships and
Postgraduate Scholarships. Fellowship applicants cannot hold this award
in the first 12 months of their fellowship. They may, however, apply for
the award in the second 6 months of their fellowship. Scholarship
applicants may not hold this award in the first 12 months of their
higher degree by research.
Successful applicants
must take up this award within 6 months of the intended
commencement date. The awardee can hold other non NHMRC travelling
awards.
Value: Overseas A living allowance of $5,000 for 3 months up to a
maximum of $10,000 for 6 months, and an airfare allowance for the
successful awardee of up to $2,500, will be paid for a Travelling Award
held overseas..
Value: Australia A living allowance of $3,000 for 3 months up to
a maximum of $6,000 for 6 months, and an airfare allowance for the
successful awardee of up to $1,000, will be paid for a Travelling Award
held in Australia.

National Heart Foundation Travel Grants

The National Heart Foundation (NHF)
offers Travel Grants to junior researchers working in the area of
cardiovascular disease or related areas. Travel Grants are open to
Australian citizens or permanent residents.
Researchers may
only receive one travel grant per year and up to two travel grants
during their pre and postdoctoral training. No more than $1,500 can be
requested. All
applicants must be presenting research related to cardiovascular
disease. Travel Grant funding will be restricted to the following:
- Students studying for higher degrees (PhD,
Masters etc.) and junior Postdoctoral Fellows (no more than 5 years
postdoctoral)
- Travel Grants will only be awarded to
those travelling overseas to present their cardiovascular research at a
conference
- Postdoctoral appointees travelling to take
up an overseas position
- Indigenous Health Researchers wishing to
present their research at an appropriate conference in Australia are also
eligible for a Travel Grant award
- Current NHF Fellows and Scholars may
apply for Travel Grants to bolster their current travel allowance
- All applications submitted in a round will
be considered competitively and awards will be offered by rank based on
merit

Synopsis: The Ian Potter Foundation provides small travel
grants to young staff members with at least 3 years tenure to attend
overseas conferences, to pursue their research, to have the opportunity to
gain further experience and to meet their peers in the international
scene.
Value:
An unconditional financial commitment from the institute (of up to $5000)
towards the project must be confirmed before the application is submitted
(support must be in addition to any salary stipend that will be paid during
the travel undertaken). A letter of reference from the applicants Head of
Department confirming the sum granted to the applicant for their travel must
be attached to the application.
Eligibility: The Foundation does
not provide funds for domestic travel; travel grants for undergraduate,
masters or doctoral students; or retrospective grants for travel already
undertaken in part or in whole. Applications must be received at least 3
months prior to the intended departure date.
Application: A budget for the
project, the dates of travel, destination and a CV of the applicant must be
attached to the application. IMPORTANT TO NOTE: The Travel Grant
Guidelines state that the applicants intended departure date should be no
less than three months from the closing date.

Young Scientist Program
Travel Grants –
JDRF invites applications from young researchers for grants of up to $2,500
to allow travel to research institutions or scientific meetings, for the
purpose of furthering the researcher’s expertise in the study of Type 1
diabetes. Eligible candidates will be medical, science or allied
health graduates who are undertaking Type 1 diabetes research in the early stage of their career (ie PhD students or not more
than 5 years postdoctoral). The scientific meeting/research visit planned
by the applicant must focus on one of JDRF's research goals: to restore
normal blood glucose levels; to prevent and reverse complications; to
prevent Type 1 diabetes.
Allied Health and Nursing
Travel Grants
– JDRF invites applications from young allied health professionals
(nurses, dieticians, psychologists, social workers, podiatrists, exercise
physiologists, occupational therapists and pharmacists) for
grants of up to $2,000 to allow travel for the purpose of presenting their
research relevant to Type 1 diabetes. Eligible candidates will be
allied health or nurse professionals undertaking research impacting on the
lives of people with Type 1 diabetes and their carers and families; or
allied health or nursing students, enrolled in a post graduate research
program, whose research will impact on the lives of people with Type 1
diabetes and their carers and families.
Note: JDRF will not
accept applications for meetings that have occurred or will occur before
grants are awarded unless otherwise agreed.
Applicants must also
be: Australian citizens,
permanent residents currently residing in Australia or temporary residents
holding JDRF research awards who are currently working at an Australian
institution.

Australian Academy of
Science –
International Scientific Collaborations Program
Scientific
Visits to China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan,
Europe, United States of America, Canada and Mexico

The Australian Academy of
Science invites applications from professional scientists to visit Europe
between 1 July 2007 and 30 June 2008 to collaborate with researchers in
various institutes.
Eligibility: Proposals in any field of natural science, basic and
applied will be considered. Australian citizens and permanent residents are
invited to apply. Applicants must hold a PhD degree or equivalent at the
time of application. Support will not be given when the primary purpose of
the visit is to attend a conference.
Value: Successful
applicants will receive from the Academy a grant-in-aid. This is based on a
contribution towards travel between Australia and the host institution and a living allowance.

The CASS Foundation
Travel Grants

Synopsis: The CASS Foundation Limited is a private philanthropic
foundation created to support and promote the advancement of education,
science and medicine, and research in those fields. Travel Grants are
offered to further the career opportunities of Australian postdoctoral
early career researchers.
Eligibility: Postdoctoral
early career researchers are defined as being
generally within seven or eight years of the start of a research career. The
travel grants are available to assist attendance at international
conferences or other approved activities conducted outside Australia. The
applicant is expected to present new research as a platform presentation or
as a poster where the applicant is first author. The grants are not
available for travel to attend conferences being held in Australia.
Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents and must
reside continuously in Australia during the period between the date of
applying for a CASS Travel Grant and the scheduled date of departure. The
conference must not commence earlier than two months after the closing date
for applications nor later than nine months after the closing date for
applications. Travel must be completed within 90 days of departure from
Australia.
Value: Up to $5,000 per grant
