The Alfred Human Research Ethics Committee

The Alfred Human Research Ethics Committee reviews the ethical and scientific aspects of research and medical activities involving human subjects at The Alfred, the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute, the Burnet Institute, Monash University departments associated with The Alfred, Caulfield Hospital and Sandringham Hospital. The Alfred Human Research Ethics Committee reports to the AMREP Council.

NHMRC Requirements

It is a requirement of the National Health & Medical Research Council (NHMRC) that all medical or scientific research done on humans or animals must be approved by a properly constituted ethics committee. All research involving humans should conform to the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (2007) and the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research (2007).

AMREP Requirements

The AMREP Council has implemented A Guide to Good Research Practice, with the aim of ensuring that medical research undertaken within AMREP is conducted to the highest scientific and ethical standards. All research staff should ensure that the work they are involved in adheres to these guidelines, which are based on the Monash University School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine Guide to Good Research Practice, 4th edition, 2011.
