The Henry O'Hara Surgical Research Trust - Research Award


Purpose

  • To undertake research in the field of Surgery;
  • To encourage individuals who have not been previously involved in major surgical research activities;
  • To fund a study that is complete in itself and not merely part of a major study.

Eligibility

Any medical graduate wishing to train as a surgeon or any surgical trainee shall be eligible to apply for this award. The research must take place within The Alfred hospital / Monash University Department of Surgery under the direction of an experienced researcher.

Amount and tenure

Up to $7,000 (not intended for living expenses). Funding is for one year from January 2009.

Guidelines

Applicants should avoid submitting projects that are:

  • purely of a quality control nature

  • determination of normative data only without a research question

  • development work without a research component, eg. new assay

  • evaluation of new or proposed equipment

  • accumulation or acquisition of descriptive data without an outcome

Late applications will not be accepted.
